A London-based Liberal rabbi has been awarded a prestigious international prize for her work empowering women.

Northwood & Pinner Liberal Synagogue’s Rabbi Lea Mühlstein was one of 15 progressive female leaders to be recognised during the Biennial of the Union for Reform Judaism.

Mühlstein, who was the only UK-based recipient at the first ever Women of Reform Judaism (WJR) Women’s Empowerment Awards Dinner, said: “It is one of the great privileges of my role that I am able to elevate women’s voices and empower women.”

The Liberal faith leader said: “It is still so easy to default to selecting men to quote or appoint to roles. Unless we demand of ourselves and others to look more broadly, women are easily missed out. I am deeply honoured to be recognised by the WRJ for my contribution to changing this culture.”

WRJ was founded in 1913 to strengthen the voice of women around the world and promote progressive Judaism.
