Limmud re-brands to become a festival
Annual Jewish event of learning and culture switches from being a conference, as an expanded programme is announced
Limmud 2017 in Birmingham started to take shape this week, with the announcement of speakers and details of a new street food dining experience.
Organisers said presenters and performers for the 36th cultural event, taking place 24-28 December, would include “unorthodox” columnist and essayist Mark Oppenheimer, Israeli singer Shai Tsabari and New Yorker Erin Zaikis, who founded Sundara Fund, a sustainable soap recycling initiative active in India and Myanmar.
A re-branding exercise this year sees Limmud turn from a ‘conference’ into a ‘festival,’ as well as an expanded programme for families and young teens programme and a greater emphasis on celebrating volunteers.
