Lions make their point against Oakwood

The Lions earned a deserved point against the O’s, though were left to rue several missed chances which could have seen them take an unlikely win.

The first half proved to be a sloppy affair, with neither team really getting their foot on the ball. An injury to Lions’ Ryan Springer early on gave Matt Green the opportunity to shine having fallen out of favour with the manager recently.

One of the only shots of the first half resulted in a goal. A clearance from Nick Landsberg struck the referee in the shin before falling to Oakwood midfielder Guy Helman, who unleashed a shot from the edge of the box that left Kosky with no chance.

Half-time then came and a rousing team talk by David Kosky got the Lions side fired up, especially James Gold who could be heard shrieking at times.

Lions’ equaliser finally came when James Gold slotted in a rampaging Landsberg down the middle of the park. Charging down the wing, Landsberg showed composure to glance into the box to pick out Ben Lampert who slotted the ball into the Oakwood net.

Lions had two golden opportunities to win the game late on. The first when Sam Lipton challenged the Oakwood keeper and resulted in the ball crossing the line, only for the ref to controversially blow up for a free kick and the second when Will Beresford unleashed a trademark long ball into the box only for him to be denied by the crossbar.
