Lions roar through to last 16 of Cup

Two goals from Josh Kennet helped the Rowley Lane side beat Broadfields in the Aubrey Cup.

London Lions negotiated a tricky away tie at Broadfields to secure their place in the last 16 of the Aubrey Cup.

Playing on a difficult surface against physical opponents, Lions had to be at their most determined to secure their berth in the next round of a competition the club is yet to win.

Josh Kennet was in inspired form, and his dipping free-kick from 20 yards angled beyond the home goalkeeper to give Lions a first-half lead.

David Myers in the Lions goal had to be at his best to repel the aerial threat from Broadfields and it took until after half-time for them to net a deserved second, when Charlie Kasler and Kennet combined brilliantly to set up top-scorer James Gershfield who made no mistake,

Broadfields weren’t done however, and they pulled one back with 10 minutes to go after Jake Rinsler conceded a penalty, but it was left to Kennet to cap the victory with a spectacular goal when he caught the Broadfields goalkeeper out of his area, before lobbing him from 45 yards to seal the win.
