Lions U10’s win back-to back WFL titles

London Maccabi Lions U10s won their second consecutive league title on Sunday after beating Borehamwood Red 2000 5-3.

Managed by Nigel Burns, with Joel Philips acting as his assistant, the side wrapped up the Red Division, which is the highest league of the Watford Friendly League, with three games to spare.

Sunday’s win saw Jason Burns on target twice, with Sam Goldberg, Joseph Abrahams and Oli White also all scoring. Having won the same division at U9 level last year, they put themselves in the record books by winning it this year as U10’s – the first time a London Maccabi Lions has ever achieved such a feat.

Burns said: “I am really proud of all the boys – they are a really special group with individual flair, a huge amount of technical ability and battling qualities all in abundance. Most of this team has been together for three seasons, with some of them playing together for four. They train really hard and fully deserve to be where they are. We have also reached both the Watford Friendly League Cup Finals this season in May, so a possible treble is on the cards after last season’s double, but we know a lot of hard effort will be required.

Squad:
Scott Leslie, Brandon Roach, Moshi Benaim, Ben Werter, Oliver Kaye, Oliver White, Sam Goldberg, Joseph Abrahams, Jason Burns and Dylan Phillips.
