Livingstone to discover his Labour fate next Tuesday
Former London mayor questioned for 4 hours but still no result as second day of disciplinary hearing ends.
Ken Livingstone’s disciplinary hearing is set to enter a third day after it broke up without a result on Friday evening.
The former London mayor is facing a charge that he indulged in actions detrimental to the Labour Party after claiming last year that Hitler “supported Zionism” before he went mad and killed six million Jews.
He has steadfastly stood by the claims ever since.
His hearing in front of Labour’s national constitutional committee was scheduled for two days. But he emerged at the end of the second day to the awaiting media to say it would resume on Tuesday afternoon.
He said he had been questioned for four hours. Asked if the case was “all about Palestine”, he said: “No it’s about a smear against supporters of Jeremy Corbyn.
If the charge is upheld, he could be expelled from the party.
His comments on Hitler and Zionism came 11 months ago, as he sprung to the defence of MP Naz Shah after it emerged she had shared on social media a post advocating the transfer of Israel to the US as a “solution” to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
She accepted the sentiment was anti-Semitic and apologised – but Livingstone continues to insist otherwise.
