London philanthropists open clinic for Israeli children with severe disabilities

London-based philanthropists Gillian and Irving Carter were at the official opening of their Sylvia Carter Medical Clinic, a treatment centre for Israeli children with severe, complex disabilities.

The clinic, a fully-accessible treatment centre, was dedicated in memory of Irving’s late mother, Sylvia, through their charitable trust, The Locker Foundation, of which the Carter’s have sponsored a number of important ALEH projects over the years, the latest of which, being the unveiling of their newest project at ALEH Moriah.

ALEH is Israel’s leading network of care for children with severe complex disabilities, as well as being an international advocate for disability inclusion.

The event was attended by numerous distinguished individuals, including Mayor of Gedera Mr. Yoel Gamliel, ALEH Director General Rabbi Yehuda Marmorstein, Major General (Res.) Doron Almog, Founder and Chairman of the ALEH Negev-Nahalat Eran rehabilitative village in southern Israel.

MC’d by Alex Daulby, from Manchester, whose daughter is a resident at ALEH Moriah, Rabbi Yonatan Lipschitz moved attendees to tears explaining how he and his wife left their lives in South Africa to provide their daughters – who has severe disabilities – the tools and opportunity to live happy and fulfilled lives at ALEH.

The highlight of the evening was when residents of ALEH Moriah illustrated ALEH’s vision of finding the ability within the disability, giving the attendees a special musical performance and demonstration of their skills in the creative arts.

The Clinic is staffed by doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals to provide a wide variety of accessible treatments to residents on a daily basis.
