Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire has agreed to become an honorary patron of the Association of Jewish Ex-Servicemen and Women (AJEX), continuing a family tradition.

Robert Voss is the only Jewish Lord-Lieutenant in England, Lord Rothschild having been the only other British Jew to have held the title – in the 1880s.

Voss is president of the County Military Forum and of the Reserve Forces & Cadets’ Association in Hertfordshire, as well as the vice-president of the East Anglian Forces Association.

AJEX said he reached out “as he is incredibly passionate about remembering those many Jewish servicemen and women that served in HM Armed Forces and hugely values supporting those serving today”.

Voss said: “My late father and father-in-law were both members of AJEX and would be delighted at my involvement. They both regularly attended the AJEX parades having served in the British Army during World War II.

“I have great respect to those who have risked and given their lives so that we may live in peace. I look forward to bringing value to the organisation.”

AJEX chair Mike Bluestone said Voss “will bring an extremely valuable new dimension. We hugely appreciate him agreeing to come on board.”
