Louise Ellman ‘furious’ after member ‘let off’ over post

Labour MP Dame Louise Ellman will be writing to the party’s general secretary to ask why an activist she reported last May for allegedly posting antisemitic imagery from a far-right website was not immediately suspended.

Activist Kayla Bibby was suspended and barred from the party’s candidates list yesterday for allegedly posting antisemitic imagery taken from Incogman, after the Liverpool Riverside MP raised the matter on Monday, as first reported by HuffPost.

Ellman compiled a dossier of antisemitic imagery allegedly posted by Bibby and brought it to a parliamentary labour meeting on Monday.

“I was so furious about the whole thing and really upset that I raised at the parliamentary Labour meeting,” she said

“From that,” she added, “a lot of MPs I passed the material around and were very shocked by it, and that’s led to some further action.”

Among the images in the dossier, one depicted the Statue of Liberty being smothered by a facehugger from the sci-fi movie Alien with a Star of David on its back. 

“She thought that the symbol was Israel, not Jews but to me that does not make it any better,” said Ellman.

Another image shown to MPs was one of George W Bush and George H.W Bush and the words “100 percent Jew Tools” and “Think of all they did for Globalist Jewish NWO.”

But, Ellman reported the case to the party in May of last year and raised the matter again in a letter to Jennie Formby in November yet the matter only resulted in a “reminder of conduct” – until yesterday. 

Ellman told Jewish News: “Her behaviour was ‘noted’ which means nothing. She has never apologised and was a member until last night.”

“How could it be that someone who published that material from a far right website has been let off? How could that happen?,” she said. “I will be raising it again and writing to the general secretary.”
