Man arrested over Heaton Park synagogue terror attack released on bail
Police say investigation continues after incident last October which claimed lives of Melvin Cravitz and Adrian Daulby
A man arrested in connection with the terrorist attack at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in October last year has been released on bail.
The 49-year-old from Salford was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of failing to disclose information regarding terrorist activity, contrary to S38B of the Terrorism Act 2000.
Greater Manchester Police said on Wednesday evening that he has been bailed, and the investigation into the attack continues.
A crime scene that was in place in St James’ Road, Higher Broughton, has now been lifted.
The man was the eighth person to be arrested in connection with the attack on the synagogue.
Worshippers Melvin Cravitz and Adrian Daulby were killed when Jihad Al-Shamie, 35, a Syrian-born British citizen, drove into the gates of the Heaton Park synagogue in Crumpsall, Manchester, in October last year, and then began attacking with a knife, wearing a fake suicide belt.
Three other men were treated in hospital for serious injuries and Al-Shamie, 35, was shot dead by armed police as he carried out his attack.
It was the first fatal antisemitic terror attack in the UK since the Community Security Trust, a British charity which provides security and advice to the Jewish community in the UK, began recording incidents in 1984.
