A man has been held by police after shouting “Allah, Allah,” and “I’m going to kill you all” in Stamford Hill, though it’s not being treated as terror-related.

The man hurled the abuse at Jewish passers-by on Lealand Road, Tottenham, before being followed by Jewish neighbourhood watch group Shomrim. He was subsequently sectioned by police under the mental health act.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan police said they “were first called to a report of a man using threatening words and behaviour in Lealand Road. Officers attended and subsequently located and stopped the man who was detained under the Mental Heath Act. No one was injured and this is not being treated as terror-related.”

Michael Scher, from Stamford Hill Shomrim said: “Members of the public were rushing away from him, fearing for their immediate safety. Thankfully police were able to detain him, and prevent further incident.”

Stamford Hill has a significant Jewish population, with roughly 30,000 Strictly-Orthodox Jews.
