Marcus Freed, Mark Maier and other comedians are appearing in London
Lots of comedy gigs for your diary
Londoners have the chance to see the show Hollywood stars are raving about, with the return to the UK of comedian Marcus Freed’s biographical show Marcus Is Alive.
Marcus, who splits his time between London and Los Angeles, says: “The past few months have been a whirlwind. I performed the show in LA and had a fantastic response. I could not believe it, when all these Hollywood stars were posting about my show and saying how fantastic it was.”
Marcus’ show – and, yes, it is a comedy – is based on the true story of when he was seriously injured in a car crash. A larger-than-life character, Marcus, as well as being an award winning performer, is also a rabbi and a yoga teacher.
Marcus Is Alive is at the Circle and Star on Sunday 10 May, Wed 13 May, and Sunday 17 May.
The Circle and Star has also become the new home for comedian Debra Tammer’s C&MP comedy nights. On Thursday 30 April French comedian Marcel Lucont will head the line-up with Debra as MC. Joining them will be Mark Maier, Ross Smith, Charlotte Fox, Keith Carlisle, Rob Copland and Nicole Harris. circleandstar.com
Also on the comedy front Bella Narain, who runs Hot Girl Comic Incorporated comedy nights, is hosting Hot Queer Comedy Night in May. The line up of professional comedians will be performing material rooted in LGBTQ+ lived experiences, touching on subjects including identity, dating and community. Award-winning BBC and Edinburgh Fringe Jewish comedian Courtney Büchner will be appearing.
Hot Queer Comedy Night is on 7 May at Shoreditch Balls EC1
Comedian Mark Maier, hot foot on the success of his West End theatre show at the Duchess Theatre, will be reprising his hugely popular show Jewvenile at The Radlett Centre in June. Award-winning Mark, a familiar face on the comedy circuit, is known for his observational stand-up comedy and this show sees him finding comedy in, among other things, cushions, blue badges and Jewish wife swapping.
Jewvenile is at the Radlett Centre on 11 June
