Mariah Carey plays first Israel show: ‘Nobody tried to pressure me not to perform’

Mariah Carey has performed in Israel for the first time, saying that nobody tried to pressure her not to perform.

The global superstar who has sold over 200 million records worldwide told Israeli fans she was “so excited for my first concert in Israel” on Tuesday. 

Carey, 45, gave her performance on Tuesday night to a packed out Rishon Lezion Amphitheater, which holds roughly 12,000 people. 

When asked about pressure from the Boycott movement urging not to perform, Carey said: “Nobody tried to pressure me, I did hear about it but I do what I want to do.”

“I’ve always wanted to come here. I don’t care what other people’s political agendas are. “I’m just an entertainer and I’m here. I’m happy to be here and I’m honored to be here”.

 

She said before the show, it was “just me and the band and the singers so you’re going to get a musical show.”

“It’s not going to be a whole lot of pyro. It’s bare-boned, so hopefully people will know the songs well enough that they’ll be excited to hear the songs and happy with the show.”

Mariah Carey also met with Sara Netanyahu, the wife of Israel’s prime minister, who was in the audience during the performance.
