Israel’s former ambassador to the UK Mark Regev is expected to join Benjamin Netanyahu’s office, according to several Israeli media reports.

The newspaper Times of Israel reported last month that Regev is “expected to return to the Prime Minister’s Office.” Meanwhile, the news website i24News claimed that he is “likely return to his post serving inside the Prime Minister’s Office.”

The Australian-born diplomat, who previously served as the Israeli PM’s international spokesman, spoke to Jewish News last week about the final days of his four-year term in London.

On Israel’s plans to annex parts of the West Bank, he said it was an issue of “Israeli sovereignty.”

“We don’t use the word annexation – annexation is taking something that’s not yours. We believe we have a legitimate claim to territories in the West Bank from a legal, historical and security point of view. We don’t deny that other people have a claim but rival claims have to be sorted out,” he told JN.

Regev’s former deputy Sharon Bar-li is currently serving as interim chargée d’affaires.
