Mason elected leader of local government Labour group
Former JLM national secretary succeeds new Greater Manchester mayor as LGA Labour Group chief
Peter Mason, the former national secretary of the Jewish Labour Movement, has been elected as the new Leader of the Local Government Association (LGA) Labour Group.
Mason, who is also the leader of Ealing Council, succeeds Bev Craig following her election as the Mayor of Greater Manchester.
Prior to his election as leader, Mason served as the LGA Labour Group’s deputy leader.
He served as JLM’s national secretary from 2013 to 2021, playing a prominent role in tackling antisemitism within the Labour Party.
The LGA is the national voice of local government in England and Wales, working as a cross-party organisation to support, promote, and improve local councils across both nations.
The Labour Group is the official network of Labour Party councillors within the LGA.
