Masters football review – week 25

North London Raiders were confirmed as Division One champions, while two other sides booked their cup final places, writes Jeremy Silverstone.

It was a day of celebration for Raiders, as they were crowned champions without kicking a ball, while Brady A and St John’s Wood Tigers secured their cup final places.

HENRY SWERNER CUP, sponsored by Visualeyes Opticians & Sunglasses Barnet:
Brady A booked their place in the final, as a goal from Ashley Davidson and last-minute winner from Graeme Grossman earned them a 2-1 win in a tightly-contested tie against Scrabble. Andy Miller had previously equalised for Scrabble with a looping header.

NATHAN HORWITZ DIVISION TWO CUP, sponsored by Atlantis Travel:
St John’s Wood Tigers are also through to a cup final, after Adam Soller, Paul Herszaft, Grant Morgan and Jonny Feinmesser all scored in a 4-0 win over Glenthorne.

DIVISION ONE:
TABLE

North London Raiders have been crowned Division One champions after their closest challengers Chigwell were beaten 3-1 by Lions A. Paul Lenchner, Hadley Silver and Danny Gordon were all on target in a win which means the Raiders now have an unassailable lead at the top of the table.

Raiders manager Elan Ovits told jewishnews.co.uk: “It’s been an excellent league campaign in which the lads have consistently played fantastic football and overcome any challenge that has been thrown at them. They deserve to be champions, having been unbeaten with still a couple of games to go.

“Having been manager for the last three out of four seasons, winning the league on every occasion, I’ve had the fortune of having a great squad of players to select from, some of which will be representing Team GB at this year’s Maccabiah. This is mainly down to the hard work and dedication of my assistant manager, Gavin Hodes, who on behalf of the club I would like to dedicate winning this league title to.”
