Masters review – week 30

DIVISION ONE:
Chigwell claimed their first Masters title as goals from Adam Stolerman and Daniel Sugarman saw them to a 2-0 win over Scrabble.

They began the day as firm favourites, needing just a point to secure the title, and did so much to the delight of player-manager Richard Slater. He told jewishnews.co.uk: “It’s the club’s first league title since 2004, so a long time coming. To win the title in what is only our second season in Masters football is superb, but full credit goes to the squad who have been absolutely brilliant.

“From the first game in September the lads never lost focus. Two comebacks against NL Raiders at 2-0 and 5-0 down, to claw back draws went a massive way to winning the league.

“It was an amazing effort by all involved and fully deserved. We now look to Brady in the Cup Final next week to try and secure the double.”

They look to complete their league and cup double on Sunday against Brady Maccabi A in the final of the Henry Swerner Trophy.

North London Raiders secured runners-up spot thanks to their 5-2 win over Waldaf Town, in what was their penultimate fixture. Tony Plaskow helped himself to a hat-trick, with Gideon Gold and Wayne Davidson also on target. James Kaye and Alex Bourne replied for Town.
