Division Two leaders Hendon B returned to winning ways with a vital 3-1 win away to Faithfold C.

The opening 20 minutes were a tight and cagey affair, but Hendon gradually began to impose themselves and they took the lead when a corner dropped at the feet of Sammy Barron, who kept his composure to sweep the ball in and maintain his fine goalscoring form in what could be his final appearance before making Aliyah.

Hendon doubled their lead shortly after as Ben Blackston’s flighted cross found debutant Eli Shebson, who brought the ball down well and lashed home.

Hendon should have made the game safe at the beginning of the second half as they created further chances but were denied by some decent saves from the Faithfold keeper. The home side had struggled to create much against a very solid Hendon backline, but with 10 minutes remaining they were awarded a free-kick which sneaked directly in at the near post. However, their hopes of taking something out the game were swiftly put to bed as a cross from Benni Sluckis was dropped by the Faithfold keeper and Jono Nesbitt was on hand to tap in and make all three points safe.

Hendon manager Adam Glekin said: “I thought we showed great bouncebackability today. I told the lads that the last 3-4 weeks haven’t been good enough, especially last week and that it’s time to step up again – and they did just that. Last week not a single player would have got more than 6/10. Today, I think everyone deserved 7/10 at the very least. Defensively we were hard to break down, Ezekiel Jacob and James Neidle were excellent at centre-back and deserved a clean sheet. Avi Mocton and Ben Blackston bossed the centre of midfield, and Eli Shebson made an impressive debut – playing in the hole, he linked the play superbly and capped his performance with a classy goal.”
