by Andrew Sherwood

Hendon completed the double over Boca and continued their strong start to the season with a comfortable 3-1 victory at Chase Lodge.

Hendon were bright straight from the off, and when Gab Saul’s free-kick was spilled by the Boca goalkeeper, captain and centre-back James Neidle scrambled the ball in to open the scoring.

Neidle was causing havoc at set pieces with his height, and could have had a hat-trick in the first half hour. Hendon doubled their lead when Sammy Barron scored his first goal for the club, looping a header into the net from a long Benni Sluckis throw. Hendon continued to create chances and should have been further ahead but had to settle for a 2-0 lead at the break.

Boca improved after the break, but the game was killed as a contest when a loose ball broke to Ben Blackston at the edge of the box and he smashed home a piledriver into the top corner with his weaker right foot, also opening his account for the club. Boca pulled a goal back late on with an impressive individual goal, but the result was never really in danger

Hendon manager Adam Glekin said: “It was far from vintage today, but we’ll take the win. As the old cliche goes, there’s no easy games in Jewish football! I thought we controlled the game in the first half and were by far the better team, it should probably have been four or five.

“The second half was disappointing on our part, I’ll take my share of the blame as I’m not sure the substitutions I made helped but the lads also got a bit complacent. Next week is a big game against Real Hendon and we’ll need to step it up – but I’m sure the sight of seeing Chaim Strom in their line-up will fire a few of the lads up!”
