Mike Freer hosts crocus garden planting to remember child Shoah victims
Some 1,500 bulbs were planted at Henley's Corner in Finchley, and a commemorative plaque will be unveiled
The MP for Finchley and Golders Green hosted a crocus planting ceremony at the weekend in memory of the 1.5 million children who perished in the Shoah, according to a report.
Around 100 members of the local community and synagogues planted some 1,500 bulbs at Henley’s Corner in Finchley, and a commemorative plaque was unveiled during the event on October 6.
The crocus garden and plaque serve should serve as a reminder of those both persecuted in the present-day and historically.
“It was heart-warming to gather with the local community to create a commemoration for the innocent lives of the 1.5 million children who were murdered during the Holocaust,” the MP added.
Mike Freer told the Jewish Chronicle he was inspired to “do something locally” after visiting the children’s memorial at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem.
Freer also told the Chronicle he is funding the ceremony, which he has been planning for a while.
The MP Luciana Berger revealed last month she is to fight for the London seat for the Liberal Democrats at the next election.
