Defeating Lewis van Poetsch 40-37 on points at York Hall, the 34-year-old super-welterweight never looked in danger of relinquishing his unbeaten run and will now go into his first title fight – against Matt Butler for the Lonsdale Challenger Light middleweight title at the same venue on 30 July – in confident mood.

Speaking after his win, he told jewishnews.co.uk: ”Today was all about getting rounds in the bank and listening to what my coach Ian Burbidge has been telling me in the gym, it was a solid four round fight ahead of my title fight next month.

“This was a brush of the cobwebs performance, one where I had listen to my coach Ian, learn from it and move on.”

Happy with his performance, a comfortable one which saw him dominate the first three rounds, he said: “I went in there with an experienced fighter who outweighed me by a few pounds, so everything now’s a learning fight, and it was a good three rings in the bank. I stuck to my boxing in the fourth round, tried not make any silly mistakes in the fourth round and build for this title fight which is now coming soon.”

And speaking with the vociferous support he received , he said: “Really appreciate the support, the supporters have been amazing To bring over 100 supporters to the York Hall for a four-round fight is amazing. It was early in the evening and they still came out to support me, represent me and cheer me on.”

Now able to look ahead to his first title shot, which will take place three years and a day from his first ever fight, he added: “It’s now just under two months away, I’ll have a week off, a week out of the gym. This week will be for myself, maybe go holiday and then I’ll start a six-seven week training camp.”
