Moldova’s community absorbs Jewish refugees from Ukraine

The Jewish community in Moldova has begun absorbing Jewish refugees from Ukraine, as Russia’s assault on the country continues.

Hundreds of Jewish families have already poured into the country on Ukraine’s south-western border, where they are being housed in motels and provided with hot food and essential supplies with the support of the Inbar and Marius Nacht Family Foundation.

Moldova’s Chief Rabbi Pinchas Salzman thanked the Foundation and its chief executive Nachman Rosenberg, for providing an emergency grant that to help absorb hundreds of further Jews who will be arriving in Moldova in the coming days.

Moldova’s Jewish community is one of the smallest in Europe, standing at around 4,000, while Ukraine’s is more than 200,000, more than half in the capital of Kiev, where Russian tanks are currently just miles away from the city centre.
