Momentum director refused to step down over handling of antisemitism crisis

Momentum director Christine Shawcroft has refused to step down from her role despite calls from its leadership to do so.
The national executive committee (NEC) member had previously quit last March as chairwoman of the party’s disputes panel after it emerged she had opposed the suspension of a council candidate accused of Holocaust denial.
The Labour activist and Jeremy Corbyn-supporter wrote in a Facebook post that she was asked to stand down but refused over their handling of antisemitism.
She also condemned Momentum for withdrawing their support for Pete Willsman, a member of the NEC seeking re-election last year, after he was recorded calling some members of the Jewish community “Trump fanatics.”
Shawcroft wrote in a post on Facebook: “As I seem to be persona non grata in Momentum these days, they want me to stand down as director.”
She added: “Which I offered to do, but I wanted a guarantee that the nonsense last year about withdrawing support from someone on an agreed NEC slate, then again objecting to an excellent candidate for the NCC, wouldn’t happen in future.
“They couldn’t guarantee that (!!!) so I said I wouldn’t stand down.”
