More Israelis died in terrorist attacks in 2017 than in 2016, despite there being less attacks carried out.

Data released by the IDF on Saturday night revealed that from 99 terrorist attacks over 2017, 20 Israelis were killed, with 169 wounded. The attacks, which originated in the West Bank, are an increase on the numbers from 2016, where from 269 attacks, 17 Israelis were, with 263 injured.

The figures are considerably less than 2014, when 100 terrorist attacks, originating in the West Bank, claimed the lives of 93 people, while injuring 882. Two years ago, 28 Israelis were killed, with another 360 wounded from 226 attacks.

Security forces claim most attacks were carried out by guns in the West Bank, with groups, including the Shin Bet intelligence agency, IDF and police, increasing their efforts to uncover unofficial workshops producing illegal weapons.

The IDF has arrested 3,617 Palestinians over the past year, an increase from the 3,143 arrested in 2016, though Palestinian rights organisations said in a statement said Israel detained 6,742 Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and the West Bank over the course of the year
