Natasha Kaplinsky and her family are recovering after they were involved in an accident in Corfu.

The former newsreader and several family members were on board a boat when there was a fire, according to a report in The Sun.

A spokesman for the first Strictly Come Dancing winner told the paper: “Natasha and her family were involved in an accident in Corfu. They came home early to receive treatment and are making a good recovery at home.”

Kaplinsky and her husband are reported to have a holiday home on the Greek Island.

A Corfu Port Authority spokesman added: “The vessel suffered a mechanical failure which caused a fire in the engine room, which was immediately extinguished by the people on the boat.”

Kaplinsky, who was awarded an OBE for her services to Holocaust commemoration, was also honoured for her work when she was awarded a Special Recognition Award at Jewish News’ Night of Heroes’ in February.

Natasha Kaplinsky presented with her award by two of the survivors to whom she has become close since the beginning of the testimony project — Peter Lantos and Hedi Frankl. Host David Walliams is on the left.
