Neo-Nazi symbols daubed in Borehamwood

Police have launched an investigation and increased patrols after neo-Nazi graffiti was daubed in the area this weekend.

The words ‘Sigurd Legion’, a reference to a British white supremacist group was daubed in Aberford Park. Graffiti also appeared at several other sites, according to locals who took to social media.

A Herts police spokesperson said: “Officers are currently investigating graffiti found in Aberford Park, Borehamwood, after it was brought to our attention on Saturday 14th March.

“Officers have visited the park and are liaising with the council in order to arrange its removal. Patrols have also been increased locally and the Hertsmere Safer Neighbourhood Team is working with the local community to offer reassurance.

“Hertfordshire Constabulary takes reports of hate-related crime very seriously and the matter is being fully investigated. Anyone who has any information about this graffiti should contact police on the police non-emergency number 101.”

One local mother-of-two said: “It’s always shocking to hear about such racist graffiti appearing in Britain but for it to appear so close to home, in an area with a large number of Jews and other minorities, makes it all the more disturbing.”
