Borehamwood rabbi inducted in Netanya by Chief

A Borehamwood rabbi has been inducted in Netanya, Israel, but Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis in what is believed to be a first-of-its-kind ceremony.

Reflecting the large number of British olim living in the coastal city, Rabbi Boruch Boudilovsky was inducted last night as the Rabbi of the Young Israel Synagogue of North Netanya (YINN) in a British-style ceremony.

Mirvis and Rabbi Kalman Ber, Chief Rabbi of Netanya, conducted the ceremony alongside YINN’s two Emeritus Rabbis – Natan Morowitz, the shul’s founder, and Edward Jackson, whose pulpits have included Hampstead Garden Suburb, Hong Kong, Kingston and Kenton.

Israel-born Boudilovsky grew up in Glasgow, and in 2010 was appointed Associate Rabbi of Borehamwood and Elstree United Synagogue. In 2013, he was appointed to lead its new and successful satellite ‘Yavneh’ community in South Borehamwood.

He will now serve a shul which, for 35 years, has been known as one of Israel’s biggest ‘Anglo’ synagogues, and is joined in Israel by his wife Esther, a therapist, and his children.
