Benjamin Netanyahu’s 26-year old son has said anti-fascist “thugs” in the United States are just as bad as the neo-Nazis they challenged during a far-right march in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Yair Netanyahu, son of the Israeli prime minister, made the comments on Facebook, as world leaders condemned U.S. President Donald Trump for drawing a moral equivalence between the far-right activists and the counter-protest.
“I’m a Jew, I’m an Israeli, the neo-Nazis scums in Virginia hate me and my country,” he wrote in English on Wednesday.
“But they belong to the past. Their breed is dying out. However the thugs of Antifa and BLM [Black Lives Matter] who hate my country (and America too in my view) just as much are getting stronger and stronger and becoming super dominant in American universities and public life.”
Opposition Israeli politician Mickey Rosenthal took to Twitter, writing “Netanyahu Jugend,” a reference to the Nazi youth movement, and adding: “Unfortunately, the son is continuing to sow hatred like his father.” Rosenthal later apologised for the reference and deleted it.
