New JLC chair works on UK-Israel ties during meeting with President Rivlin
Jonathan Goldstein meets key Israeli politicians including the Head of State, Gilad Erdan, Yair Lapid and Yonatan Schechter
The new chairman of the Jewish Leadership Council has met senior politicians in Israel this week, in a trip culminating in a catch-up with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin.
Jonathan Goldstein, who took over from Sir Mick Davis in the spring, rubbed all the right shoulders in Jerusalem, including those of Minister of Strategic Affairs Gilad Erdan, Yesh Atid leader Yair Lapid and Yonatan Schechter, a senior adviser to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is currently under police investigation.
Goldstein also met Deputy Minister Michael Oren and former foreign minister Tzipi Livni, discussing the Balfour Centenary celebrations, the ties between Britain, Anglo-Jewry and the State of Israel, and the importance of Jewish continuity.
“My first trip to Israel since becoming JLC chair has been extremely important and productive,” he said.
“It was a privilege to meet President Rivlin, as well as other senior politicians and officials. I look forward to further developing these relationships over the coming years as part of our efforts to strengthen ties between our community and Israel.”
