Prince William ambulance to take to Israel’s streets this month

An ambulance bearing Prince William’s name is set to begin active service in Israel later this month after final checks on the vehicle were completed in the UK.

It was dedicated in honour of the Duke of Cambridge’s trip to Israel in June 2018 for what was the first official visit by a senior royal to the country.

Magen David Adom UK chief executive Daniel Burger said it will be “very special to see an ambulance bearing the name of His Royal Highness The Duke of Cambridge on the streets of Israel saving lives.

“I hope it won’t be too long before we can see it in action, in person.”

The ambulance is set to be shipped to Israel on April 22. It will be stationed in the northern city of Nazareth.

“Seeing the ambulance was like heaven touching down on Cirencester,” said Lord Simon Reading, who witnessed the final checks. “It was a perfect illustration of the wonderful work MDA does around the world.”

His grandfather — the only Jew to become a marquess — was Lord Chief Justice between 1913 and 1921 and was a leading influence on the government’s Balfour Declaration.

“The visit by His Royal Highness The Duke of Cambridge was a special moment for us all, both here in the UK and also in Israel,” Lord Reading continued.

“The ambulance is a fitting tribute to a historic event that none of us will ever forget.”
