1955.
How big is your congregation?
Around 1,400 families. More than 1,000 under-18s, including around 250 under-fives.
What do you offer families?
More than five children’s services a week and family events including an annual Chanukah party, lunch and supper on Yom Kippur, Simchat Torah lunch, mother and toddler groups including messy play, weekly youth service, youth events, parenting courses, Bnei Akiva, JLGB, scouts, guides, Gilah nursery with more than 100 children, bar and batmitzvah courses. Tell us some interesting facts about the synagogue that we may not know
Some 80 children’s service volunteers and 1,000 cups of grape juice were drunk by the children in our succah for kiddush!
If all the marshmallows eaten at BES Shabbat UK havdallah fireworks were stacked on top of each other, they would be taller than London’s landmark Tower Bridge!
The shul started a twinning programme with a village in Israel called Shtula.
A series of events to celebrate the shul’s 60th anniversary included a gala dinner in June, special uniform Shabbat, family fun day in the summer, a 60th anniversary education programme, plus regular weekly events.
What are the highlights of Shabbat morning kiddish?
There is a bat or barmitzvah at Croxdale Road almost every week – the main feature of the shul’s kiddush is that it is packed. At Yavneh and in the youth service, there are themed kiddushim. There is also a separate kiddush for the Limmud minyan.
