Newman back on the trampoline mat

Trampoline star Josh Newman took part in his first event of the year last weekend when he competed at the British championships at the Echo arena in Liverpool.

Enduring a frustrating time as a number of back related injuries, coupled with his growth, has put pay to any competitive action, he is now back in full training, and has spent the past month completing full routines.

With expectations low, competing was a bonus and he was invited as he represented GB at the world championships last November an automatic entry to the British championships.

Producing excellent routines and form over the weekend, he won the synchronised title and gold medal with partner Rhys Northover for the second year running, as well as winning silver in the individual event – and was very unlucky not to win the gold, as he made a mistake in the prelims voluntary routine, although he won the final by a clear margin.

With there being under eight competitors in the event, the organisers reverted to an accumulated two-day combined score instead of a straight shoot out final meaning Josh won silver.

He spent this Sunday at a trial at the Lilleshall National sports centre for the world championships which are being held this November in Daytona beach, Florida.
