“No place for you in the next world”: Ra’anan Reform shul vandalised

British Jewish community leaders said they were “shocked and saddened” after a Reform synagogue was vandalised in Israel last week.

The words “no place for you in the next world” were spray-painted onto the walls of the Kehilat Ra’anan synagogue in Ra’anana on Thursday.

“We are shocked and saddened by the vandalism of the reform synagogue in Ra’anana,” said Board of Deputies president Vivian Wineman.

“Such actions have no place among civilised people.”

The vandalism, which referenced rulings by the Rambam on non-believers, was the latest attack against the synagogue. In April 2011 six windows were broken and the words “it has begun” were daubed on an exterior wall.

Movement for Reform Judaism Chair Robert Weiner said: “We are outraged that such an attack can take place on a synagogue in the Jewish homeland. We call upon the rabbis and leaders of the city of Ra’anana and beyond to publicly denounce this act, in the strongest and most unequivocal terms.”
