Norwood chairman to stand down at the end of the month

Norwood’s chairman David Ereira is to retire at the end of next month, with the Jewish charity appointing its fundraising head Neville Kahn as his replacement.

Ereira’s retirement comes at the end of his five-year tenure and concludes 25 years’ involvement with the communal institution, with the charity’s chief executive Elaine Kerr describing his service as “unrivalled”.

She paid tribute to his “passion and dedication,” saying: “Under David’s superb leadership Norwood has gone from strength to strength.”

Charity leaders said Ereira would have “a lasting legacy” having played a key role in creating Young Norwood, the largest professional young lay network within the Jewish community with 3,500 active members.

In a statement, the charity said: “Mr Ereira was a collaborative presence, encouraging innovation, and a driving force that ensured a continued focus on improving the lives of the people Norwood supports.”

Joint presidents Jon and Nicola Mendelsohn said Kahn had “an outstanding professional pedigree” and “can-do attitude,” adding: “His involvement with Norwood over the years has been hugely beneficial… In Neville we are confident that we have a leader who will help us make a difference to thousands of lives.”
