Oliel knocked out of French Open

Yshai Oliel saw his French Open campaign come to an early end on Tuesday after he was beaten in a second round clash in Paris, which lasted just over two hours.

The 17-year-old faced Brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wild for a place in the third round and won the first set 6-3. Looking to be on course to winning the match as he built himself a lead in the second, Wild then broke late on in the set to take it 6-3, and level up the match at 1-1.

A rain break then delayed the start of the third set, which once it got underway went with serve up to 5-5. Oliel was then broken, which was followed by Wild holding his serve as he took the set 7-5 to wrap up the win.

The defeat was Oliel’s second in two days, after he exited the doubles competition on Monday afternoon. The winner of the event at last year’s event, he and Canadian Benjamin Sigouin, were beaten by Argentine Axel Geller and Columbian Nicolas Mejia, 7-6, 6-4.
