Israeli junior Yshai Oliel booked his place into the second round of the boys’ singles competition in Paris.

The 17-year-old faced Belgian Tibo Colson in a first round clash on Monday morning, with the Israeli winning the first set on a tiebreak in what was a mammoth 74-minute first set.

However, the second set proved to be a more routine affair, Oliel breaking Colson in his first service game, the first of three times he broke him, as he won the second set 6-1. Oliel will next take on Brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wild for a place in the third round.

Oliel wasn’t though as successful in defending the doubles title he won last year. This time teaming up with Canadian Benjamin Sigouin, the eighth seeds were defeated by Argentine Axel Geller and Columbian Nicolas Mejia, 7-6, 6-4.
