Jerusalem 1 Bambi 5
One point, was all Bambi needed from the game against Jerusalem to ensure the championship title. Straight from kick-off, one could see that Bambi were going for the win with their high pressure and superior possession. Jerusalem were forced into a long ball, counter-attack strategy but were stopped in their tracks every time by the Bambi Defence.
Bambi scored their first of the evening when a great team move finished with a pass by Hugo, to Bambi’s star forward, Aviv Zemer who scored, 1-0.
Fifteen minutes later, a great attack by Bambi finished with another goal by Aviv Zemer, who converted a penalty after Hugo was brought down in the box. 2-0.
In the second half, Bambi continued to control the game and attack the Jerusalem goal, but a terrible Bambi defensive error saw Jerusalem get a goal as they looked to spoil Bambi’s evening. 2-1
The goal was a wake up call for Bambi who continued to run at the Jerusalem back four with a flurry of attacks and they got their reward when they were awarded a penalty for a handball inside the box, which also resulted in a red card for the Jerusalem player. Aviv Zemer made no mistake as he scored his second penalty of the night and clinched another hatrick.3-1.
The clock was running down and Bambi could sense the championship was almost theirs as Hugo scored an incredible volley to bring the score to 4-1. After this goal Jerusalem had conceded defeat and Bambi were able to score another goal with very little resistance, through their defender Ido Sagacio.
Following the win, Bambi Manager Yoni Sarig said: “There are no words to describe how happy I am that we won the champion title. This is our first season in the league and winning the league has been our target since the beginning. I am very proud of my players who gave everything for the team. We must not get too carried away with our title victory as we still have to prepare for our semifinal cup game this Saturday night. We will do everything we need to get into the cup final on the 22nd of March, and we are hoping to also add the cup to our silverware collection. We have dedicated this title to our friend Ben Rom whom our team is named after. Rest In Peace brother”
England FC 3 Aviv City 1
A convincing victory for England FC saw them leapfrog their rivals in the Olim League table, in what was a dress rehearsal for the upcoming cup semi-final between the two sides, which is scheduled to take place in two weeks’ time.
The first half was a fairly uneventful affair with neither team managing to breakdown the other’s defence. When called upon, England FC’s keeper, Roy Meron and Aviv City’s, Rob Bradman, made a number of decent saves, but in truth neither goalie had much to do in the first 45 minutes.
All the action took place after the break, with the introduction of Chad Waldman changing the game in favour of England. The American-born striker was full of pace and intent when he became the lone striker and his efforts were quickly rewarded when he linked up with Motti Colman to give England the lead. The goal tally was soon doubled as Roy Bihi-Zehou characteristically headed his side’s second of the night.
A near perfect performance from manager Terry Newman was slightly blotched, after a headed own goal occurred following a breakdown in communication with his keeper. However, Aviv City failed to take the initiative and it was that man Roy Bihi-Zehou again who made sure England took all three points with a superb lobbed goal off of his head.
Despite the importance of the three points, both teams know that the cup semi-final is of much more consequence and after last weekend’s game it will be one look forward to.
