Olim League – week two review

Week two of the sportsdirect.com Olim League saw Inter win a five-goal thriller as they beat Modiin 3-2 to claim their first win of the season.

The hosts couldn’t have asked for a better start, as the Yaron Cohen latched onto a through ball and found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Keeping his composer, he slotted the ball neatly into the back of the net.

Despite Modiin’s lively start, it was Inter Tel Aviv who took charge of the midfield and controlled the game. A superb bicycle kick by Amir Szuster was saved by the Modin keeper. Following that, Amir’s curving shot was hoisted off the line as Inter started to look dangerous. It wasn’t until the 35th minute that Inter found the equaliser. A free-kick was given away just outside the Modiin area, and it was Yossi Milhem who drilled to the ball into the keeper’s bottom left.

The hosts started the second half in similar fashion as the first, pilling the pressure on Inter. Sam, the Inter goalkeeper, was unable to keep out a powerful shot by the Modin left midfielder and the rebound was poked in from close-range by Itay Saidoff, resulting in Inter trailing behind for the second time in the game.

Inter dug deep and eventually got the equalizer. Martin Orson whipped in a curving freekick, which the Modin defense failed to clear. The ball pinged around the area until it finally fell to the head of Vitor Lansky, who bundled the ball over the line.

The visitors maintained the pressure and their third goal was delightful. The ball was picked up in midfield by David Schumann, who sent in a delicious cross which fell nicely for Emanuel Schultz who volleyed the ball, first time, into the top right hand corner.

Despite some late Modiin pressure, Inter held out with some stern defensive work and earned a vital three points.

In the weekend’s other fixtures, Ashdod beat Rainball 7-1 thanks to two goals from Ilan Dahan, Shmouel Darmon and Ofir Firouz. Yonathan Guershoun scored the other. Yehuda Sinvany-Ben Yoseph netted Rainball’s consolation.

The third game saw Raanana beat Jaffa 2-1 thanks to goals from Gavriel Kanichowsky and Josh Lipman. Adi Ginzburg scored for Jaffa.
