Or Sasson won gold in Georgia

Or Sasson’s preparations for this summer’s Olympic Games saw him win gold at the Judo Grand Prix in Tbilisi, Georgia, at the weekend.

Having won silver at last summer’s European Championships, he went one step further by beating Roy Meyer in the final of the 100kg event.

Defeating 2012 Olympic bronze medallist Rafael Silva on way to victory, he said: “I was fortunate to hear the Israeli national anthem played in Georgia and this is the first time that I have won a gold medal in a Grand Prix competition, which is very exciting.

“Thanks to this achievement, I will enter the top eight in the world rankings which is a very important step for me.”
