Palestine car convoy organiser: ‘We don’t hate the Jewish community’

The organiser of a controversial ‘Convoy for Palestine’ has urged participants not to repeat scenes of vile antisemitism witnessed at a previous event.

Cars associated with the previous event had driven through Finchley Road on May 16 shouting sick racist abuse, including “F*** the Jews, rape their daughters.”

The display of rabid antisemitism provoked widespread condemnation, and Jewish organisations have since met with the police to urge vigilance against a repeat.

Tomorrow’s pro-Palestinian convoy is set to drive from Bradford to London before meeting up with a ‘Justice for Palestine’ rally outside Downing Street at 1pm.

Speaking on YouTube, an event organiser said: “At the last convoy, a serious incident did take place, where we gladly helped the police in their investigations, and the people who were involved in the racist chants and racist slurs did get arrested.”

He added: “We have no hatred against the Jewish community, we have nothing but love for anyone … I encourage you guys to attend on Saturday, but attend in a peaceful and respectful manner.”

Fears have been raised over the convoy’s route, as members of the community make their way to and from synagogue.

A spokesperson for the Community Security Trust said: “We are aware of this proposed convoy and we will be discussing it urgently with police, with a particular focus on the routes they may be planning to take into central London.”

Four people were arrested after the convoy of six cars were filmed making their way through Jewish areas, waving Palestinian flags and shouting racist abuse.
