Palestinian woman shot dead in Jerusalem after ‘knife attack attempt’

The incident occurred early on Thursday morning in the Old City, close to an entrance to the Temple Mount

Israeli police say they shot dead a Palestinian woman who allegedly tried to stab them in Jerusalem’s Old City on Thursday morning.

The woman, who was reported to be from a town near Jenin in the West Bank, was pronounced dead at the scene.

It happened outside one of the entrances to the Temple Mount compound.

A police statement said: “After she approached them, she drew a knife and attempted to stab the officers at the scene, who responded by shooting at her.

“Medical personnel who arrived at the scene pronounced her dead.”

It comes amid rising tension and incidents of violence between Palestinians and Israeli security forces in the West Bank.

A Palestinian gunman was killed by Israeli forces during an overnight raid on Wednesday in an operation that the IDF said was targeting members of Hamas.

At least six Palestinians have died and two Israeli soldiers wounded in the past week.
