Paradise Lost: Israelis pulled from riotous Maldives

State security services had to evacuate Israeli tourists in the Maldives this week after a 13,000-strong protest threatened to converge on guesthouses known to be popular with Jewish holiday-makers.

In one incident, an Israeli surfer found an anti-Israel sign placed outside his hotel, promptly destroying it. Meanwhile, others found swastikas next to Israeli flags.

The trouble was reported on Kaafu Thulusdhoo Island, as locals began to voice their anger and call from the Israelis’ removal.

After the evacuation, a pro-Palestinian protest was held in the Maldives capital of Male, during which an Israeli flag was burned (pictured, right).

Observers have now detected a wave of anti-Semitism sweeping across the island nation

It comes after Maldives last week pulled out of all agreements with Israeli entities and announced a boycott of Israeli products.
