Peer claims ITF title win in Istanbul

Shahar Peer claimed her first win in nearly two years after winning the ITF tournament in Istanbul at the weekend.

The Israeli, ranked No. 124 in the world, beat Czech Kristyna Pliskova, who’s ranked five places below her, 1-6, 7-6, 7-5 in the $50,000 event.

Dropping down from the WTA circuit to give her much-needed confidence, the win was the 27-year-old’s first since August 2013, and her first ITF win since 2004 when she won an event in Ra’anana.

Peer will now prepare for the French Open at Roland Garros, where she will have to come through the qualifiers to reach the main round of the draw.
