Peer & Sela suffer first round French Open defeats

Peer suffered another disappointing defeat in Paris

Shahar Peer’s French Open singles campaign lasted less than an hour after she was comprehensively beaten on Monday afternoon.

Up against the 18th seed, Canadian Eugenie Bouchard, she was beaten 6-0 in the first set which lasted 25 minutes, before losing the second 6-2 in 34 minutes.

Dudi Sela fared little better later on in the day, when he was beaten in four sets by Donald Young. Although losing the first set 6-1, he did then battle back to take the second set 6-2. However, that was as good as it got for him, as he then lost the third and fourth 6-1, 6-0 to round off a miserable day for the Israelis.

Tuesday sees Israel’s final singles player, Julia Glushko, begin her campaign when she takes on Donna Vekic, she’s due second on Court 11.

Peer’s stay in Paris isn’t quite over yet though, as she’s teaming up with Daniela Hantuchova in the women’s doubles. They take on the fifth seeds, Cara Black and Sania Mirza in the first round.

Jonathan Erlich is Israel’s sole representative in the men’s doubles. He and Marcelo Melo take on Frantisek Cermak and Mikhail Elgin in their first round tie.
