Pennsylvania allocates £5.8m for Pittsburgh shul repair fund

The US State of Pennsylvania has allocated £5.8 million to repair the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh after a white supremacist shot and killed 11 Jewish worshippers and injured six there in October 2018.

Site of the deadliest antisemitic attack on American soil, the synagogue building itself was badly damaged by the shooting.

The perpetrator holed up inside exchanging fire with police and SWAT teams, until finally surrendering.

Authorities say the grant will help to rectify much of the damage, which has left congregants praying in other synagogues for the past three years.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf said it would “transform the site of the worst antisemitic attack in US history into a place of hope, remembrance, and education”.
