Pieces of downed Egyptian plane found off Israeli coast

Benjamin Netanyahu's office said the fragments were discovered north of Tel Aviv, near Netanya

Pieces of wreckage believed to be from the EgyptAir plane that crashed in May have been found on the coast of Israel.

Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said the fragments were found north of Tel Aviv on Thursday morning, on the shores of Netanya.

A statement from the office said “parts were collected and it appears there is a high likelihood they are pieces of the Egyptian plane”. It said the debris will be sent to Egypt.

EgyptAir Flight 804, an Airbus A320 en route from Paris to Cairo, crashed into the Mediterranean Sea on May 19.

Egyptian investigators said data recovered from a cockpit voice recorder suggests pilots tried to extinguish a fire in the plane. The crash killed all 66 people on board.
