Holocaust Memorial Day

PM and SNP’s Ian Blackford commemorate HMD in Commons

SNP Wesminster leader Ian Blackford speaks in the chamber of the House of Commons, Westminster, as MPs gather to pay tribute to Conservative MP Sir David Amess, who died on Friday after he was stabbed several times during a constituency surgery in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex.

During today’s fiery PMQs, Ian Blackford, the Scottish National Party’s leader in the House of Commons, took a moment to recognise Holocaust Memorial Day, saying: “You and the entire house will want to commemorate tomorrow, the Holocaust Memorial Day, when six million Jews lost their lives to the hands of the regime of Hitler.

“And of course we remember other genocides, not least more recently in Bosnia, and we all pray for continued peace.”

Boris Johnson agreed with Blackford, adding: “I wanted to join the right honourable gentleman and to echo his sentiments on Holocaust Memorial Day where I think he is completely right.”
