Police investigate after antisemitism campaigner targeted on Twitter

Police are investigating after an antisemitism campaigner was targeted on Twitter with a message warning “Tick tock. Karma is coming” along with bomb and wrist watch emojis.

Fiona Sharpe, spokesperson for the group Labour Against Antisemitism (LAA), said she read the tweet on Monday morning and immediately contacted the Community Security Trust and police.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police confirmed officers received a report on Monday relating to a tweet, adding: “The matter is being investigated.”

The Twitter account behind the tweet, @Lucy_Loobie, rejected claims it had threatened Sharpe, telling another user: “It was about time running out not a bomb you silly people.”

“I never threatened any such thing. It appears some have misunderstood that I was ref to time & the criminal justice system are catching up with people,” the account wrote in another tweet. 

Sharpe, who joined LAA in May, told JN: “I anticipated a level of abuse because it unfortunately comes with the territory”, adding: “I did not expect to wake up on a Monday morning and see a picture of a bomb next to my name.”

“This is now in the hands of the police. I will not be intimidated or silenced. I will never stop calling out antisemitism wherever I see it,” she tweeted.
