Luciana Berger is poised to win Finchley and Golders Green for the Liberal Democrats, according to a new poll that suggests she will beat the incumbent Conservative with 41 percent of the vote.

The poll conducted by Survation claims the Liverpool Wavertree MP, standing in the north London seat after joining the Lib Dems in September, has a 12 point lead over Mike Freer. This number, if accurate, represents a staggering 34 point increase for the Lib Dems since the 2017 election.

The survey shows Labour in third with 25 percent of the share. This comes after they came within 2,000 votes of unseating Freer at the last election.

Berger walked out of the Labour Party earlier this year over its response to antisemitism, was one of the founding members of Change UK , but has since joined the Lib Dems citing its “unequivocal” stance against Brexit.

The poll, which was conducted on 2 October, is the first to be done since she announced her bid to fight for Finchley and Golders Green as the Liberal Democrats’ candidate.

It was conducted among a sample of 400 people and commissioned on behalf of the Liberal Democrats.

  • An earlier tweet from Britain Elects, which announced the results of the poll, initially said the Lib Dems had 33 percent of the vote, with the Tories registering 25% and Labour 21%. This has since been updated.
