Prince Edward was in Maidenhead on Tuesday morning to officially open an extension to Maidenhead Synagogue.

Greeted by Rabbi Jonathan Romain with the Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire and Mayor of Maidenhead, the new facilities will help to accommodate the growth in membership and activities within the Jewish community in Maidenhead and the surrounding area.

Chair of the Synagogue, Brian Kriefman, said: “Although most Jews live in north west London, there is a major presence in the Maidenhead and surrounding area – we are now some 800 households – and the royal visit was recognition of a strong Jewish presence in Berks and Bucks.”
